Subject: postdoctoral fellow positions
From: "Huaijun Zhou" <hzhou@ucdavis.edu>
To: Members of <faang@animalgenome.org>
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic and
productive team for a minimum of two years. The team is mentored by three
professors, Huaijun Zhou and Hao Cheng at UCD, and Lingzhao Fang at AU. Our
mentors possess expertise in various fields including bioinformatics,
quantitative genomics, population genomics, statistical genetics, machine
learning, and functional genomics. Our research activities are based in the
Department of Animal Science at UC Davis.
Our team has made significant contributions in functionally annotating
regulatory elements in farm animal genomes (FAANG), farm GTEx analysis, and
developing machine learning models to enhance genomic selection accuracy for
agriculturally important complex traits and identify causal variants. The
focus of this postdoctoral position is to develop computational and machine
learning approaches for integrating "omic" data from the FAANG consortium,
farm GTEx data, and large-scale GWAS datasets for complex traits. The overall
goal is to pinpoint causal variants and enhance genomic selection accuracy
for complex traits.
Recent publications from our team that showcase our research include work on
FAANG (Nat Commun. PMID: 33758196; Nat Commun. PMID: 34615879; Sci Adv PMID:
37134160), farm GTEx (Nat Genet. PMID: 35953587; BioRxiv,
https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.11.11.516073), and machine learning (Genetics.
PMID: 35212766; bioRxiv, accepted in Cell Genomics
https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.01.13.523857). The successful candidate will
have excellent opportunities to collaborate and interact with bioinformatic
scientists at the UC Davis Genome Center, as well as with bioinformatic
institutes worldwide. There is also a possibility to visit the co-mentor's
institute in Denmark.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a background in two or more of the
following areas: bioinformatics, machine learning, quantitative genetics,
biology, and statistics. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated
abilities in the following areas: 1) performing integrative “omic” data
analyses including epigenomic data, 2) familiarity with biological concepts
related to gene transcription, gene regulation, and protein translation, and
3) familiarity with bioinformatic tools and concepts.
The ideal candidate should have exposure to or knowledge of a programming
language such as R, Python, Java, Perl, or C++. Candidates with a Ph.D. in
Bioinformatics/Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Quantitative Genetics,
or Molecular Genetics fields are highly desired. Strong analytical,
organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are required for
this position. The candidate must be innovative, self-starting, and able to
work effectively both in interdisciplinary teams and independently.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and educational
background. Interested candidates please email your application (including
cover letter and curriculum vitae with contact information of three
references) or inquiries to: Dr. Huaijun Zhou at hzhou ucdavis.edu or Dr. HaoCheng at
qtlcheng@ucdavis.edu, or Lingzhao Fang at lingzhao.fang qgg.au.dk.
The University of California, Davis, is an affirmative action/equal
opportunity employer with a strong institutional commitment to the
development of a climate that supports equality of opportunity and respect
for differences.
Both Prof. Huaijun Zhou and Lingzhao Fang will be attending ISAG, if you are
interested in and like to discuss this opportunity, please contact us for a
meeting.
