Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics at UC Davis, California
A postdoctoral position in Bioinformatics is immediately available at the
University of California Davis to join the FAANG group at Department of
Animal Science.
The focus of this position is to develop computational biology and
bioinformatics programs to analyze high-throughput data sets generated
from next generation sequencing including RNA-seq, Pac Bio Iso-seq,
CAGE-seq, and ATAC-seq, among others. The candidate will have opportunities
to work or participate on multiple funded genomics projects: “High throughput
characterization of gene transcript variants by full-length single-molecule
sequencing to improve farm animal genome annotation” and “Genome-wide
Identification and Annotation of Functional Regulatory Regions in Livestock
Species” by USDA-NIFA-AFRI Foundational Program, and “Epigenetic control
of preimplantation development” by NIH-NICHD RO1. There will be great
opportunities to collaborate and/or interact with bioinformatics scientists
at the UC Davis Genome Center and bioinformatics institutes across the world.
Candidates should have some background in two or more of the following
areas: bioinformatics, biological system modeling, genomics, biology and
statistics. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated ability to: 1)
Perform data analyses using next generation sequencing data; 2) Familiarity
with biological concepts of gene transcription, gene regulation, and protein
translation; 3) Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and concepts.
The candidate should be exposed or have knowledge in programming language,
R, Perl and C++, SQL and Java. Candidates with PhD or Masters in
Bioinformatics/biostatistics, Computational Biology, Genomics, and Molecular
Genetics/Microbiology fields are highly desired. This position requires
strong analytic, organizational, written, and verbal communications skills.
The candidate must be an innovator and self-starter, and work equally well
in interdisciplinary teams and independently.
Salary is commensurate with experience and educational background. Interested
candidates please email your application (including cover letter and
